Into the Storm: Hurricane Gonzalo

So I think this is a pretty appropriate time to post these photos. If you are up to date on weather news you know that my little island home has spent the past few days preparing for Hurricane Gonzalo. It is due to be a direct hit today (Friday) and is actually a pretty big threat. It has been fluctuating between a category 3 and 4 hurricane, so we have been boarding up our houses and stocking up on supplies. This will be the strongest hurricane to hit since Fabian in 2003.

I decided to schedule this post as I had no idea if we would lose power again. We have not only been preparing for Gonzalo but also cleaning up from Fay, a ‘tropical storm’ that hit us unexpectedly last weekend and if you ask me, she was a Cat 1 hurricane! Fay caused power outages island wide for days, huge trees to be uprooted and roofs to be blown off [all of the above happened to me]. But like true Bermudians, we stay strong, pick ourselves up and prepare for the next one.

Right now I am probably sleeping through this storm to avoid using my electronics and them dying on me. Storms can be so boring, but I know once this passes there will plenty of parties going on, hurricane party anyone?! Leave it to Bermudians to make a party out of anything, especially a hurricane, lol.

These photos are from a photoshoot I did last year with the amazing Troy Jennings. While there wasn’t a hurricane, it was a really windy day and the weather was overcast. Lamont had this awesome crate and rope so we came up with this ‘shipwrecked’ theme. I imagine this is what it would have been like had Rose got shipwrecked on a beach – if the Titanic had sunk in the middle of the warm part of the Atlantic and not hit an iceberg in the North near Newfoundland.

Be sure to pray for us and I will update you after the storm [when I get electricity and access to Internet]. Hopefully Gonzalo was easy on us and there isn’t too much damage.

Ps. If you haven’t seen Into the Storm, you definitely should! It is a really good movie & I loved the concept that everything was seen from a ‘camera angle’. Being a fan of Twister I wasn’t sure but they stepped it up. I recommend it if you love thrillers and are a movie buff.
